Energen receives contract to develop image stabilization system
Lowell, MA -- Energen, Inc. has received a subcontract valued at $264,088 to develop image stabilization software for advanced submarine periscopes as part of the Panavision Federal Systems, LLC.
Panavision is developing the next generation digital periscopes for the US Navy. These periscopes use digital technology to deliver advanced observational capability to the submarine fleet. Digital imaging technology is extremely sensitive to vibrations in the periscope mast caused by water and wind turbulence. Energen’s image stabilization system will eliminate these effects resulting in a stable, high-quality image in even the most extreme weather conditions.
With the successful demonstration of the new periscope system, Energen expects the system to be deployed on new submarines and be retrofitted to the existing fleet as they come in for repairs and maintenance.
“This project is an outgrowth of our technology development efforts with the Naval Underwater Warfare Center in Newport, RI and our active vibration control SBIR with the Navy’s Directed Energy Weapons Program, said Chad Joshi, President of Energen, Inc. “Image stabilization has tremendous growth opportunities with the rapid expansion of mobile remote sensing, homeland security and missile defense applications.”
Panavision Federal Systems LLC provides the Government with high performing, highly reliable, imaging systems that can be used in day/night operations and in all weather conditions.
